Alison Thain OBE, was CEO of the largest Housing Association in North East England until her retirement in 2016. An experienced Non-Executive Director, she is currently also Senior Independent Governor of a University and Trustee of the Bowes Museum. Her previous positions have included Directorships of a Trust Port and of a Regional Building Society, Local Enterprise Partnership and Regional Development Agency. She was awarded the OBE for services to housing. She is committed to the highest standards of ethical and corporate governance.
Senior Independent Director (from February 2021) John Brace is an experienced Non-Executive Director with 25 years’ experience in the social housing sector. He is a Chartered Accountant and former Finance Director with a wide ranging commercial background in both executive and non-executive roles and with extensive social housing sector experience. His former roles include Chair of Cottsway Housing and Group Resources Director of Aster Group.
David Godden joined the Sage Board as an independent non-executive director in July 2019, offering over 35 years of operational and Board level experience. He is also a Non-Executive Director of NHS Property Services, where he chairs the facilities management committee, and is a member of the remuneration and customer committees. David sits on the Estates Advisory Committee of the Imperial War Museum and is a Trustee Director of Power to Change, a charity which is building a movement of community run businesses across England. He previously held senior executive roles in property management and customer services with Telereal Trillium, Land Securities and BAE Systems in the UK and overseas.
Cedi Frederick is a member of the Customer and People Committee and is chairing the new Residents Scrutiny Panel. He has a varied background in housing, social care and health. Cedi has 30+ years of experience as a NED across many sectors including housing, higher education, charities and the NHS; He is currently Chair Designate of the NHS’s Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board and NHS London’s Health Inequalities Board and adds a broad range of experience to the Sage Board.
Cindy is a Board level leader with over 20 years of Executive experience and 10 years of Non-Executive experience for global and UK businesses in education, media and third sectors: Most recently at Pearson Plc, where she was head of the BTEC and Apprenticeships business unit where she led a world-class educational and lifelong learning offering across 60 markets for 1M learners a year.
In her formative career Cindy held a number of senior finance roles in the entertainment media sector including at EMI, Warner Brothers and Virgin. At EMI, Cindy had full financial accountability for UK division and was also responsible for the management of the international digital hub which serviced 32 markets. She started off her career as a trainee Chartered Accountant with BDO..
A strong advocate of DEI, Cindy has been included on the EMPower Involve list for three consecutive years. She was an executive sponsor of Pearson’s race and gender equality programmes, PRIME and WILL and a Patron of the BAME Apprenticeship Awards. In 2021 she set up the post-Covid Inequality’s Forum to look at the impact of widening inequalities gap.
Currently sits on the Board of Sage Housing, Speakers Trust, and The London Film School where she chairs the Audit & Risk Committee.
Gareth Llewellyn chairs the Board’s Remuneration and Nominations Committee, ensuring Sage’s approach to issues such as performance management, pay and succession planning reflect best practice and help the business deliver on the objectives set out in the corporate plan.
He was a Chief Executive of a government trading fund providing services for over 40m customers. Before this, Gareth held global executive roles with National Grid plc and Anglo American plc and was Executive Director at Network Rail. As a NED Gareth floated Biffa plc and subsequently sold the company to private equity. He is also currently the chair of the Board Remuneration and Nominations Committee at Harwich Haven Authority, a Fellow at the Prince of Wales Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, and in 2005 addressed the UN General Assembly on human rights and business.
Gemma Kataky was involved in the inception of Sage Housing and joined the Sage Board as a Non-Executive Director in April 2018. Gemma has over 15 years’ experience in private equity and is currently a Managing Director at Blackstone within the European real estate group, focussing on UK investments across a number of sectors. Gemma has expertise in finance, asset management and real estate and also sits on the board of The Office Group, The Arch Company, iQ Student Housing and Leaf Living.
Syd has over 30 years’ experience in real estate, private equity, banking and fund management. He has worked within a variety of blue chip listed, private and start-up organisations both in the UK and globally. Former employers at director level include ING Real Estate, Land Securities Trillium, Goldman Sachs, Alpha Real Capital and Great Portland Estates. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and serves as a non-executive director on the boards of the three Brockton Capital Real Estate Funds.
Mark Sater joined Sage in August 2020, having previously been an advisor to Regis Group. Mark has led organisational transformation and growth across a range of sectors and geographies. His career includes two decades in consumer goods and retail, and one decade in regulated medical devices. His significant management and board level experience has included roles as Chief Executive Officer, AccuMED Corp LLC, Chairman of Amoena Medizin-Orthopadie-Technik GmBH and Managing Director of Overland Group Ltd. He is a chartered accountant by training.
