Head of Investment Underwriting and Analysis

About the role:

The role is high-profile within Sage and entails significant interaction with the senior leadership of Sage and its investors.  Primary responsibility is to lead the Investment Underwriting and Analysis Team of Sage.  The team is responsible for the production of the numerical underwriting of new acquisition opportunities, liaising closely with the Acquisitions and Investment Analytics teams.  The role is also responsible for jointly presenting new opportunities to the Investment Committee of Sage, answering questions as they arise.  In addition, the role is to lead the maintenance of the ‘underwriting standard’ of Sage, actualising outcomes, market intelligence, investor feedback into the standard for future opportunities.  Finally, the role leads, with others, the forecasting of future returns outcome.


Key duties include:

  • Managing a team of 6-8 professionals
  • Overseeing the production of high-quality and accurate underwriting appraisal models for investment opportunities and investment papers in general
  • Co-presenting opportunities to Sage’s Investment Committee; leadership of numerical analysis
  • Leadership of the ‘underwriting standard’ of Sage through liaison with multiple teams within Sage, Sage’s investors and external resources
  • Working with additional Sage teams to produce forecast returns analysis
  • Early involvement in new opportunities – provide guidance and advice on deal structuring, and any necessary modelling
  • Management of review of opportunities prior to Exchange – ensuring appraisal models are correct, and all necessary supporting documentation is provided
  • Provision of training and mentoring to junior members of the team, and Acquisitions team


About you: 

  • Proven leader in a numeric environment, being able to combine hard and soft skills to convey information and influence decision making
  • Keen interest in large-scale real estate investing
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, keen to research and quick to learn new skills when required
  • Strong understanding of IRRs, NPV and other return metrics
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong desire to improve accuracy and process and drive returns outcomes
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with senior leaders and investors both verbally and in written English
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and in a multi-team environment
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite with focus on Excel and PowerPoint


Qualifications and Experience

  • 5 years+ of investment analysis experience
  • Real Estate experience
  • Degree in Finance/ Real Estate expected
  • Masters / MBA / CFA or numerical professional qualification an advantage
